How to Measure Bow String Length for Recurve: Chart at 60X

Need to know how to measure bow string length for recurve bows? Read on!

When placing a recurve bow string order with 60X Custom Strings, you’ll be asked to enter your bow string length. It is important to understand that your bow length is different than the bow string length for your longbow.

If you’re unsure what the string length for your bow is, we recommend that you order your bow string length at about three inches shorter than the bow’s unstrung AMO length. You can usually find your bow’s AMO specs stamped on the bow itself.

To determine or confirm the length you need, here are the basics on how to measure bow string length for recurves: 

Unstring the bow and measure from string groove to string groove, following the curve of the limbs and along the bow’s belly, but not going into the grip. If you’re unsure how to do this, check out this blog post: How to Properly Measure a Traditional Bow String.

Although 3" shorter is the general rule, we've seen anything from 2" shorter to 8.5" shorter all work to get your desired brace height.
